Robert Shipe was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1944, immediately after completing High School. After basic training he was assigned to the 97th infantry Division where he trained as a BAR man.
Shipe arrived at the front just as the Allies halted Hitler’s Ardennes offensive. Robert and his unit would push into Germany where he would spend 42 straight days in combat. As a BAR man Shipe constantly found himself the target of enemy fire.
79-years after his service ended the AVC has reunited Bob Shipe with his beloved Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) to breakdown how he used the weapon on the battlefield.
