Abandoned at an auction house in Chicago by a client wishing to sell it, but not wishing to invest in its conservation, this painting by Evert Pieters was at the end of the line. Not wanting to see the painting lost, the auction house contacted Baumgartner Fine Art Restoration to inquire as to whether we would take it. After initially refusing and learning that the painting would be destroyed, we relented and the painting was delivered to the studio where it sat in storage for nearly 5 years until it was rediscovered during a bout of cleaning. Believing no painting should be destroyed, particularly one of this quality, Julian Baumgartner proceeded with the conservation of the work with the intent of offering it for sale at auction and donating the proceeds to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders.

BFAR created a Squarespace website to share the work and the results of the auction and donation: www.TheOrphanPainting.com
