Jellyfish cross entire oceans feeding on whatever happens to tangle with their tentacles. The jelly-like Portuguese man-of-war can harness sail power to fish with its deadly tentacles.

The big blue is the world’s greatest wilderness, far from shore and many kilometres deep. It’s a vast marine desert where there is little to eat and nowhere to hide. Yet it’s home to some of the biggest and most spectacular creatures on earth.

This episode reveals what it takes to survive in this savage and forbidding world. We witness feats of incredible endurance, moments of high drama and extraordinary acts of heart-wrenching self-sacrifice.

  1. Fish police break down the door of the Jellyfish condo!
    “GET ON THE GROUND, SCUMBAG!”
    Jellyfish: “MY KIDS ASLEEP—“
Fish Police Officer: “I SAID TENTACLES ON THE SEABED!”

(Later, in Jellyfish jail, the Jellyfish has his mugshot taken..)

Killing is a crime, kids. The Jellyfish knows better.

  2. litterly when I was 7 years old I saw this in the beach in the sand I was curious I almost touch it but I thought what if it was not safe so I left it there and leaved😂😂

  3. I was stung by one when i was 11, was boogie boarding and it wrapped around my pinky. Very painful. My finger went numb, and then over the next few hours the numbness traveled all the way up my arm and i couldn’t move it. For days i was left with the bright red mark of where it wrapped around, and an extremely sore arm. 9/10 pain…

  4. man these annotations are a cancer, why do they show it in the middle of a video, and not afterwards….jesus christ youtube's design team sucks balls

  5. Its kinda weird to think about that they are technically floating coral reef. If im wrong correct me but I read a book where they said its made out of polyps

  6. I have a fun story. I went to Kauai and was collecting sea glass on a beach and saw one that looked perfectly rounded. I went to pick it up and it felt squishy and then I saw blue tentacles drop down. I put it down and turns out it was a baby Portuguese man o war. About the size of my thumb. My dumb ass picked up a baby jelly. I didn’t get stung and the jelly was fine.

  7. Reminds me of the near death I suffered at the hands the NY Suffolk County Family Court "Judge", my former husband & his "law" firm: cruel, common place, merciless. Together, they all form the tentacles of Portuguese "males" o' war. Being a Kind, Caring, Loyal Wife of over 30 yrs….I didn't stand a chance.

  8. Vividly remember being hit by one of these when I was around 10 years old …. I was playing with my little cousins, splashing through the waves with my 4 year old cousin Timothy on my back… suddenly I ran into what felt like scratchy underwater branches and it HURT …. It seemed to be everywhere and my first instinct was to keep my baby cousin up and OUT of the water
.. I remember throwing him to the side as far as I could .. he landed maybe 5-10 feet to the side in the water and was able to safely get out of the water untouched. I scrambled and just tried to get out of whatever had wrapped itself around my foot and bottom portion of my leg. Lifeguard had to come over and sprayed some sort of neutralizing mixture onto it to help stop the terrible pain. My top of foot and shin area were bright purple like someone had scraped it with sandpaper and scratches everywhere… I remember I had to start 7th grade a few months later and was petrified of anyone at all seeing it so I only wore pants and tall socks to try and cover it. I thought it would never heal but after a few years it did. Anyway one day they made us change into gym clothes so all the other kids saw my leg and were totally intrigued but horrified …. Now it is long gone, but one of my holistic doctors found that I had been affected all that time with neurotoxins it released systemically
