For the uninitiated, Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom is the game adaptation of a popular anime in which giant zombies smash the fortifications behind which all the humans live and then eat them. These ‘titans’ would be fully terrifying enough if they weren’t also totally naked. What is it with games and conspicuously nude monsters?

What does the ubiquity of freaky enemies with the upper bodies of bare naked ladies and monsterrific everything else say about games? From whence our discomfort with being chased by a serial killer wearing nothing but a hat made of a pig’s head? Help me out here, psychoanalysts.

In the video above Show of the Week inspects Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom’s heady combo of swooping, slashing and shouting. Stick with the show to then compare and contrast the game’s titular titans with other nightmarishly nude enemy monsters.

Attack on Titan is out now on PS4 and Xbox One in Europe, and on 30 August 2016 in North America.
