On the morning of 18 July 1944, around the French town of Caen, the thunderous roar of bombers, artillery, and 600 tank engines shattered the silence to signal the start of what would go down in history as Normandy’s single-largest tank battle.
In this video, using the latest technology, unique archive footage, and the testimony of those who were there, we will follow in the tank tracks of one unit and one group of men of the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment, as they spearheaded the advance in its opening hours.
This is the story of Operation Goodwood.
