When the copper guillotine blade falls through the magnetic field of the strong magnets, the motion creates swirling electric currents in the blade, called eddy currents. These currents produce their own magnetic fields, which push against the original magnetic field, creating a force that resists the blade’s motion. This resistance slows the blade dramatically, dissipating its energy as heat and safely stopping it before it reaches Dr. Dawson’s neck.
