If you’ve seen just one interrogation on a crime show, you’ve seen a suspect say “Lawyer,” and the detectives back off and stop talking to them. In real life, this does NOT happen. The police are allowed to ignore you asking for a lawyer if you aren’t absolutely clear when asking for one. You MUST say, “I’m invoking my right to a lawyer,” or else, they can LEGALLY ignore you.
