Collin Morikawa beats Rory McIlroy in Dubai | 2021 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai

Collin Morikawa claimed a historic double in Dubai winning the season finale DP World Tour Championship as well as becoming the first American to the Race to Dubai.

The 2021 Race to Dubai comes to an end at this week’s DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. With the chance to win the final European Tour event and the opportunity for some players to end the year as European Number One, there’s plenty to play for this week. While any of the players in the 53-man field can end the week as DP World Tour Champion, only six can finish the season as European Number One. Race to Dubai leader Collin Morikawa is aiming to be the first American to claim the title. He tops the standings courtesy of winning The Open and the WGC – Workday Championship, as well as a couple of other top-8 performances in majors this year. Billy Horschel, who captured the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in September, is also in the running to become the first American to win the Race to Dubai and will do so with a victory at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Tyrrell Hatton memorably captured a record-breaking fifth Rolex Series title in Abu Dhabi at the start of the year. He heads to Dubai requiring all 2,000 points and Morikawa and Horschel to finish worse than a three-way tie for third and second, respectively. Other players also in the running are Min Woo Lee, Matt Fitzpatrick and Paul Casey. It’s all to play for…

  1. Super performance from Collin. The man has ice in his veins. I really feel for Rory, no reason to think he wouldn't have sealed the deal had he not hit that pin. That being said he had been farily lackluster all day, no birdies on the par 5s isn't good enough.

  2. Naughty title. Both big names draw clicks and likes. But Colin won the DP World. Rory like the rest of the field did not. Bringing Rory into it is cheap and belittling, becuse he had a good week. Well done Colin. European tour please don't take cheap shots for clicks.

  3. I’m lovin Colin morikowas approach to how he plays the game. Proves you don’t need to hit as far as Bryson to be great. Gives us all hope.
Love Rory though he is playing well regardless of this result. And will win maybe next week.

  4. I couldn't watch the back 9 but thought, well hoped, Mcilroy would make something happen instead of folding on the final day. I did not expect Colin to come surging up with 5 birdies! Will have to catch it on the replay. Totally incredible player!!

  5. Well, I was looking forward to watching and finding out who won on my own but I guess I can’t even go on YouTube without getting spoiled. Maybe save some mystery and use a title like “dramatic final round battle between Morikawa and Rory” or something like that?
